Anyone who has watched my video of the hotel knows we have reserved a suite! This is the PARTY ROOM, BABY.
It is two rooms in one -- a living room and a bedroom. Originally, we were going to have kben & Pouty sleeping there (or, you know, "sleeping"), but we have decided the space will be better utilized as ALL PARTY, ALL THE TIME. (So, they've moved.)
This means! The party room will be open and available for general hangout, eating, drinking, and various shenanigans before and after official programming hours plus during meal times. kben and I will keep the keys, and we'll try to make the space available whenever someone wants it (assuming we're not already there, ourselves).
We're working around the fact that we aren't allowed to bring in our own beverages or food into the con space. Plus, we're on a budget, so we simply can't afford to get everything we want through catering. So, we have some catered snacks there, and we have everything else in the Party Room.
Things that will take place in the PARTY ROOM:
1) Every morning we will be offering up free breakfast from 9 - 10:30 to attendees! This is in alternative to the $16/person hotel breakfast. (Yeah.) Now, by "free," I mean food provided by donations! only_because3 has already graciously offered to make bagels for everyone! We also want to be able to provide coffee every morning for folks who need it. (Spoiler: We all need it.) Getting a catered pot of coffee would be $35, so, no thanks, we'll do it ourselves. (There is also the Starbucks in the lobby if you want to pay for it.)
2) Similarly, having beverages other than ice water in the con space was going to be ridiculously expensive. (Plus, THEY HAVE NO DR. PEPPER. UNACCEPTABLE.) A 10 ounce bottle of Coke -- yes, 10, not 20 -- is $4.25 through catering. Whoa! So, no, thank you. Instead, we'll have various sodas (DR. PEPPER.) in the Party Room that you can access at meal times and other times of day.
3) Speaking of beverages, this is where we will keep the booze! We had a general bar set up at East that we all contributed to and shared, so we'll be doing that again. You need Sporky's drink, "The Berrylicious," trust me.
4) We'll also have an assortment of general snacks/sweets/baked goods for anyone to munch on. Getting dessert through catering was going to be too expensive. Why pay $500+ for a platter of cookies when we can get good ones for a fraction of that elsewhere?
5) And as I'm sure you've heard, we know how to party all night, hell yeah. There will be MANY late-night shenanigans here! Trust me. Plus, if your roommate is asleep, you can come here to hang out with folks and be awesome.
SO, HERE'S WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU!
- We need coffee-makers! If we have 1 or 2 going, we can get people caffeinated. We also need coffee, itself! And cups, cream, sugar, filters, and stirrers. You know, coffee stuff.
- We need soda and other beverages! Red Bull, juice, 2-liters, whatever you want. We'll also need Solo cups!
- We need snacks! Chips, cookies, candy, or, geez, even something healthy. *gasp* The DoubleTree makes amazing cookies on site, and you can buy a tin of them for a LOT cheaper than we could get them through catering.
- We need breakfast things! For the bagels, we need butter, cream cheese, jelly, plastic knives, and paper towels. We'd also love to have some fruit to munch on. (Bananas, oranges, grapes, whatever!) We're looking for super low-maintenance things, here. There will be a fridge but no stove.
- BOOOOOZE. Bring whatever you like. Uh, if you're over 21, I mean.
If everyone committed to bringing at least 1 thing from this list, we'd have a hell of a Party Room, y'all. Leave a comment here with what you're willing to chip in! The con can purchase things last-minute if we need to, but honestly, we need to put our money toward paying for the suite itself. We're counting on you!
Thanks so much for your help!
