I know around Christmas time we talked about possible carpooling to North, and we wanted to see if that was still a thing. The cheapest way to North would definitely be a carpool, so if anyone is worried about actually getting to North that lives on the East Coast, we can try to work it out. We are willing to deviate off I-95 if necessary. We live in St. Augustine, FL, and would be renting a car down here (Favan/SUV) that can probably hold 5~7 people. We plan on leaving Wednesday, July 23rd, in the afternoon and driving overnight so we arrive on Thursday morning, in case anyone wants to do the New York trip. We plan on leaving before noon on Monday It's about 14 hours from North Florida to the Hotel. Driving will be optional, but shifts would definitely be welcome! If you don't feel comfortable driving, there would be no pressure. Liss and I are okay with alternating shifts.
Costs would be split, but I can guarantee you it'll be cheaper than flying, amtracking or busing if we get at least two other people with us. Trust me, we've checked.
Round trip amtrak (for us) is around 18 hours each way, $528 total, which is $264/person.
Round trip for greyhound (for us) is 24 hours there and 34 hour back, $356 total, which is $178/person.
Round trip for airfaire (for us) is about 2 hours each way, $420 total, which is $205/person before figuring in cabs/subways, etc.
To rent the car from Wednesday afternoon to Monday evening, plus gas money, we calculated the grand total to be around $895.
That price is a bit too steep for two people. However, divided four ways puts it at $224. Divided five ways put it at $179. Divided six ways puts it around $150. And divided seven ways puts it at around $128. If we do rent the car, we'll also have transportation around Newark, which is always nice in case anyone needs something from the store, more alcohol, or clothing because someone ripped you out of yours, etc. You will be subject to my music if you don't bring any of your own, and we planned on stopping for dinner somewhere. It's incredibly important if y'all want to carpool, because if no one shows interest we will be flying instead.
