Now that panels have been announced, what are people excited for?
What are people devestated are up against each other?
All in the family and the expectations of Rachel and Quinn! I want them both so badly. I feel I can have added weight to to that because I nominated both of those topics. Like especially the expectations one. It is hurting me.
Religion vs AUs is also an unexpected sadness, because the religion in Faberry is fascinating. Actually, Quinn in general and religion is fascinating and especially in fic, I'm fascinated by what domination various authors have Quinn as.
So, I create this panel so the Panel moderators thread John just made is more business only kind of thing, here just to discuss and prepare.

Um, is it just me, or does pitting the family dynamics panel against the "expectations" panel show how they're... really redundant? I feel like those would end up being very similar conversations, and it seems inefficient to have them concurrently.

Well, I disagree; I think they're very different, but I guess it will depend on how the moderators shape the conversation. If you limit it to expectations from family, then it can be redundant, but I never saw it as just that. There are many kinds of expectations -- from teachers, from peers, from each other. And family dynamics isn't just about expectations.

Guys, just so you know, everything is weighted based on what people voted for and how much they wanted them.
There was a lot of thought and consideration put into the scheduling based on who voted for what, in order to ensure that nothing EVERYONE wanted was up against something else EVERYONE wanted.
There is some overlap, but that's because we're spending the whole weekend discussing Faberry.
The decisions for placement were not at all arbitrary and I think everyone needs to know how much thought and time John put into trying to balance this out to make sure people would have a schedule that works best for the majority.

I understand how much work went into it, and I'm not trying to cause a fuss. It's just that I'm moderating the Expectations panel, and the very first sentence of how the Family Dynamics panel is described-- "how the Fabray and Berry households have shaped their daughters"-- can't NOT be in my panel, and I feel kind of at a loss?
I don't know. When I saw the title "All in the Family" in my head that was a Shelby thing, not a Judy and Russell versus Hiram and Leroy thing, and now I'm peeved at my own lack of understanding, because I might have voted differently. Which is nobody's fault but my own.

Given the size of the con itself, I feel like, in a case like this, if there's such an overlap of topics, we could probably discuss merging the panels.

That makes sense. Well, we had to cut a fic track panel (Handling Reviews) in the final stages of planning, so if enough people agree, I'm fine with combining the Family/Expectations panels and running the Handling Reviews panel against it. That's the most we can do at this point with everything else specifically placed.
If folks want to weigh in on that consolidation/replacement, I'm certainly open to it.

I mean, John's right in that there's more to each-- I could probably make the Expectations panel entirely about Finn and we could fill the hour-- but I hate the idea of us talking about the exact same thing on two sides of a wall and not being able to hear each other.

We can merge them as a single panel with nothing against them if people would prefer, and you two can co-mod. That's fine.

Well, I'll be attending it either way, so I have no preference as to whether the Reviews panel happens or it's a con-wide thing.
DO I SMELL ANOTHER POLL?

Since you and kben are in agreeance that it can be merged, let's just do it and have you co-mod and be done with it. I'll update the schedule.

I LOVE YOU JAWN.
and getting back to the original intent of this thread, I know I'm gonna have a hell of a time choosing between The Gender Bias and Pet Peeves and Cliches. I might have to flip a coin.

Beth also fits into the family dynamics, and in some ways Puck too.
It is actually the Shelby and Beth aspect that I first thought of when I nominated it as a topic, and the whole Beth as Rachel's replacement to Shelby. Which is particularly interesting given that Beth was just the theme for one of the days in Faberry Week.
Though, there is also expectations that they have put on themselves. There could be an hour dedicated to the expectations Rachel placed on herself about NYADA and how they all came crushing down.
And I realise, there is kind of an hour on that in the Rachel panel, so I'll cover that there!
Ok, so while I was kind of not okay with the two topics being merged because there are some fascinating things to both, there is some overlap. None of which I really considered at first.
I'm sorry, but I'm obnoxiously proud of themes I nominated being at FaberryCon. I'll work on this being as less irritating as possible

I don't think the topics being merged means that we're narrowing the focus to just family expectations; I think we're widening the field to encompass the fact that the two topics are so entwined that we can't discuss one without the other.

I LOVE YOU JAWN. and getting back to the original intent of this thread, I know I'm gonna have a hell of a time choosing between The Gender Bias and Pet Peeves and Cliches. I might have to flip a coin. The original intent of this thread was just to talk about the panels, it was just that my first thought was "why do things I want to be next to each other". I know that lots of effort was taken to reduce this, so now I feel like a really horrible person for bringing it up. There is just too much awesomeness, some times.
